ANOTHER ONE, WHAT'S HAPPENING! Businessman SHOT DEAD in KK

KOTA KINABALU, (Bernama) -- A businessman from Kuching, Sarawak, died after being shot at a car park in front of a restaurant in Beverly Hills, Penampang near here Saturday.

Sabah police commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib identified the victim as Teong Choon Kwong, 44, who operated a resort in Dinawan, Sabah, was shot on the right rib by the assailant.

The incident occurred about 10.30pm while Teong was talking on the phone after leaving the restaurant when the suspect, in a small white vehicle, fired a short at close range with a shot gun, he told a media conference in Kota Kinabalu, Sundaday.

He said Teong died about midnight while undergoing treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Hamza believed that more than one suspect was involved and urged those who witnessed the shooting to contact the police.

In KUALA LUMPUR, police are confident of solving the shooting case involving Arab-Malaysian Bank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi although the latter's son is reluctant to come to Malaysia.

Kuala Lumpur CID chief, Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the investigation was progressing well as police had sought other sources of information and intelligence-based reports.

"There is no need for us (police) to send our officers to Russia to meet the son and collect evidence from him. We have enough experienced senior officers to handle this case efficiently," he told Bernama on Sunday.

A local daily reported Sunday that Hussain's son Pascal Najadi, 45, will not be coming to Malaysia following his security advisers asking him not to expose himself to any undue risks.

On Monday, Hussain, 75, was shot dead while his wife, Chong Mei Kuen, 49, was injured when they were shot from close range by a gunman whom the police suspect to be a hired killer.

The couple was walking towards their car after discussing a property deal at a Chinese temple in Lorong Ceylon here, when the incident occurred.

It is learnt the police have a closed-circuit television grab of a man linked to the killing of the septuagenarian.

On Thursday, Pascal was reported to have claimed that his father's murder was pre-meditated and that there was no property deal involved.
